About Redeemer...
In February of 2014, God gathered together a group of men and women who desired to be a part of a vibrant community of believers that was committed to God’s motivation, God’s mission, and God’s methods. This God-given longing ultimately resulted in a group of believers covenanting together in November of 2014 as Redeemer Baptist Church. Our goal was and is to magnify God’s glory by making disciples of all nations through the faithful proclamation and display of the gospel of Jesus Christ.
Our Motive: To Magnify God's Glory
Our motive at Redeemer Baptist Church is to magnify God's glory. The chief end of man is to glorify God and enjoy Him forever. It is the purpose for which we were created. Paul tells us in 1 Corinthians 10:31 that “whatever” we do, we are to “do to the glory of God.” And the church, as a local body of redeemed men and women, is able to perform this task unlike anything else in all of creation. In Ephesians 3:10, Paul tells us that it is “through the church” that “the manifold wisdom of God” is being “made known to the rulers and authorities in the heavenly places.” And we are told in 1 Corinthians 14 that when the church rightly worships God, the unredeemed will see our worship, and fall on their faces, both worshiping God and declaring that He is really among us. Glorifying God is to be the chief end of our lives, both individually and as a church. We want God’s glory to be our motivation in all things. We desire to revolve around God and His glory instead of revolving around the wants and desires of men.
Our Mission: To Make Disciples of All Nations
Our mission at Redeemer Baptist Church is to make disciples of all nations. Not only do we want to glorify God but we want all men to glorify God. This is the first petition in the Lord’s Prayer “Hallowed be thy name" (Mathew 6:9). It is also the marching orders that Christ gave to His disciples before His ascension, “Go and make disciples of all nations” (Matthew 28:19). And notice that the command is to "make disciples", not to make converts or draw a crowd. The church is to be a disciple-making factory instead of a crowd-attracting concert hall or social club. It is to be a fruit bearing organism, not a crate for collecting fruit. A theme verse for us has been 2 Timothy 2:2, where Paul tells Timothy, “What you have heard from me in the presence of many witnesses entrust to faithful men who will be able to teach others also.” In other words, a faithful disciple is to make disciples of others and to teach them to do the same. Faithful disciples make disciples who make disciples. And we believe that this responsibility begins in our homes and works its way out to the ends of the earth. We believe that every member of the body of Christ is a missionary and an ambassador, and as a church we should be equipping every member for the work of ministry (Ephesians 4:11-13).
Our Method: The Faithful Proclamation and Display of the Gospel
Our method of accomplishing the mission at Redeemer Baptist Church is the faithful proclamation and display of the gospel. The one thing that is to distinguish the local church from any other earthly institution is the gospel of Jesus Christ. It is the one thing that we have that no one else does. It is through the faithful proclamation of the gospel that God both calls out and matures His Church. Therefore, the only biblical method for fulfilling Christ's command to make disciples of all nations is the faithful proclamation and display of the gospel of Jesus Christ. It is not programs or events that God uses, but rather the steady and faithful proclamation and display of the gospel of Jesus Christ. As Paul says in Romans 1:16, it is the gospel that is “the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes.” Therefore, as a church, we must be sure that we are faithfully proclaiming and displaying the gospel. And while this may seem like foolishness to our consumeristic culture, this is the only method that God has given us to make disciples of the nations. Paul tells us this in 1 Corinthians 1:21 when he declares that it is through the foolishness of preaching that men are saved. But we must realize that it is not only our mouths that preach the gospel, but it is also our manner of life. People watch us to see if the way that we live matches the profession of our lips. Every church that claims the name of Christ is telling the world something about Christ through both what they say and how they live. And if we are doing either of these unfaithfully, then we are misrepresenting our King. For these reasons, we want to be sure that as a church and as individuals we are faithfully proclaiming and displaying the gospel of Jesus Christ and that we are relying on this method and this method alone to carry out Christ's mission to the church.
